We are all at different points on a life journey of exploration and discovery, learning who we are, what we believe and value, and where and to whom we belong. Sometimes, attempts to find answers that could lead to a more fulfilling life can be disrupted by past or present traumas, unresolved feelings, relational challenges, stressful life events, unmet physical and emotional needs, and maladaptive behaviors. We are usually unaware of how impactful these experiences can be, until, over time, we see how it affects our lives and the lives of those around us. Counseling, and Christian Counseling in particular, can help us process our experiences and help us find acceptance, meaning, and purpose toward a healthier, more joyful, and more peaceful path forward.
My Story
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with an Emphasis in Family Studies from Western Baptist College and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Adams State University. I began my career in social services, working as a case manager in foster care, child welfare, and for youth involved in the legal system; as a private therapist working with individuals, families, couples, domestic violence and addiction groups; with recent parolees transitioning into the community; and with students referred to me by their school counselor. In 2008, I was offered the position of College Counselor at Colorado Mountain College. I provided academic, career, and personal counseling to students and staff and taught Psychology, Math, and Skills courses before moving first into the position of Instructional Chair and then into the Director of the TRiO program for the Rifle and Edwards Campuses. Despite my departure in 2014, I remain a credentialed faculty and have served as the instructor for several high school concurrent enrollment classes over the years.
In 2014, I left higher education to pursue a career in pubic school. I taught fifth grade at a small PK-12 school district in Western Colorado for three years. Just before my fourth year, I earned the secondary principal position and then the superintendency. Upon leaving, I served as a Special Education teacher in the Significant Needs Behavior program in Mesa County Valley District #51, and most recently as the School Counselor in a small, private, PK-12 Christian School. I currently hold teaching and administrator licenses in the State of Colorado and in the State of Idaho. My biggest prayer in our professional relationship is that God uses me to help you and guide you back to Him. Through the trauma, disappointment, hurt, anger, and pain, He is with you, He adores you, and He is waiting for you.
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
